Preparation & workmanship
We prepare walls carefully — filling, sanding and lining where needed — measure and plan drops so the pattern flows correctly around the room, and finish edges cleanly at every corner, socket and moulding.

Wallpaper rewards good hanging and punishes rushed work, so we take on projects where the paper deserves proper handling.
Feature wall projects
A single wall in a bedroom, living room or dining room where the paper carries the whole scheme. Centring, pattern placement and how the design meets the ceiling and skirting all matter here.
Murals and children's rooms
Panel murals and scenic papers that arrive as numbered drops and must be hung in sequence, level and precisely butted so the image reads as one continuous picture.
Hallways, stairwells and cloakrooms
Small or awkward spaces with sloping walls, tall drops and lots of cuts. These are the rooms where a striped or geometric paper shows every millimetre of error, and where careful planning pays off.
Interior designers and specifiers
Designer, hand-blocked, grasscloth and specialist papers supplied by a client or design studio, where we work to the drawings, handle expensive rolls carefully and keep wastage to a minimum.
Period properties
Older walls that are rarely flat or square. We line them where needed so the finished paper sits flat and the seams stay closed.
How the process works
Hanging paper well is a sequence of small decisions made before the first drop goes up.

Survey and planning
We check the wall condition, measure the drops and calculate quantities against the pattern repeat, then decide where the first length goes so the pattern is balanced on the focal wall and awkward slivers land in the least visible corner.

Wall preparation
Old paper is stripped, walls are washed, filled and sanded, and porous or patchy surfaces are sized or sealed. Where the wall is uneven, previously painted in a strong colour or the paper is delicate, we hang a lining paper first.

Hanging
Drops are cut with the repeat matched, pasted to the manufacturer's instructions — paper or wall, with the correct soaking time — and hung to a plumb line. Seams are butted rather than overlapped and rolled gently, and air is worked out without stretching or shining the surface.

Trimming, finishing and handover
Cuts are made cleanly at the cornice, skirting, sockets and window reveals, paste is wiped from mouldings before it dries, and switch plates are refitted. We then check the seams and pattern in raking light with you and leave any usable offcuts for future repairs.

Period rooms and family homes in these areas often call for a single papered wall rather than a full repaint, and seams and pattern repeats are set out on the wall before anything is pasted. Frequently asked questions
How many rolls should I order?
Tell us the paper and we will calculate it for you from the drop heights and the pattern repeat, including a sensible allowance for matching and offcuts. It is always worth ordering from a single batch, as shading can vary between production runs.
Do the walls need lining first?
Not always. Lining is worth doing on uneven or previously repaired walls, over strong existing colours, and under thin, delicate or paste-the-wall papers where any imperfection would telegraph through. We will tell you honestly at survey whether your walls need it.
Can you remove existing wallpaper?
Yes, stripping, repairing the plaster underneath and preparing the surface can all be included. Older walls occasionally reveal damage once the paper is off, so we allow for that in the plan and keep you informed rather than papering over a problem.
Can you hang a panel mural?
Regularly. Murals are supplied as numbered panels and are hung in order to a plumb line, with the joins butted so the scene runs continuously. We set out the wall first so the composition sits where you want it in relation to the bed, sofa or fireplace.
What affects the quotation for wallpapering?
The size and height of the walls, whether lining or stripping is needed, the condition of the plaster, the type of paper and its pattern repeat, and how many cuts the room demands around windows, sockets and mouldings. We quote in writing after seeing the space, free of charge.
