Preparation & workmanship
Great interior painting starts with the preparation. We fill, sand and prime every surface properly, keep dust and disruption to a minimum, and only apply the first coat when the room is truly ready — so the finish looks flawless and lasts.
Who it's for
Interior decorating suits very different homes for very different reasons, so the way we approach a job depends entirely on the property and how it is lived in.
Period homes
Victorian and Edwardian houses with lath-and-plaster walls, deep skirtings, picture rails and original cornice. These need patient filling and sanding, and paints that let older plaster behave naturally rather than trapping moisture behind a hard film.
New builds and recent renovations
Fresh plaster and factory-primed joinery look simple but are unforgiving. We allow plaster to dry properly, apply a correctly thinned mist coat and deal with the small settlement cracks that appear in the first couple of years.
Flats and apartments
Occupied flats with lifts, parking restrictions and shared hallways. We plan deliveries and access around the building, keep communal areas clean and work room by room so you can stay at home throughout.
Landlords and managed property
Between-tenancy redecoration where the priority is a hard-wearing, easily maintained finish and a predictable schedule. We work to agreed dates so the property can be re-let without delay.
Offices and commercial interiors
Meeting rooms, receptions and retail interiors that cannot lose trading time. Where it helps, we work evenings or weekends and hand the space back ready for use the next morning.
How the process works
Every interior job follows the same clear sequence, whether it is a single bedroom or a whole house.

Survey and consultation
We walk the rooms with you, check the condition of the plaster and existing coatings, and talk through colours, sheen levels and how the rooms are used. Anything that needs attention first — damp, flaking paint, previous poor filling — is flagged then, not halfway through.

Protection and preparation
Furniture is moved or sheeted, floors are covered and doorways are sealed where dust could travel. We then fill, caulk and sand, wash down greasy or nicotine-stained areas, and spot-prime bare plaster, filler and any stains that would otherwise ghost through.

Application
Ceilings first, then walls, then woodwork, so nothing gets marked twice. Coats go on in full, even layers with proper drying time between them, and cut-in lines at cornice, skirting and reveals are worked by hand.

Finish and handover
We inspect each room in daylight, deal with any missed edges or shrinkage, refit fittings, reposition furniture and take our waste with us. You get a short handover covering the colours and products used so touching up later is straightforward.

Frequently asked questions
Can we stay in the house while you decorate?
Almost always, yes. We work room by room, keep a clear route through the house and tidy at the end of each day. Water-based paints with low odour are standard on most interior work, so rooms are usually comfortable to use again the same evening once they are touch-dry.
How long will my rooms take?
A single bedroom in reasonable condition is typically two to three days including preparation. A hallway, stairs and landing usually takes longer than people expect because of the access and the amount of woodwork. We give you a firm schedule with the quotation rather than a vague estimate.
Do you help with choosing colours?
We do. We will talk through how a colour will behave in your light, which sheen suits each surface, and where a slightly different tone on the ceiling or woodwork will lift the room. We can also arrange sample pots so you can live with the options for a few days.
What preparation is included?
Filling, caulking, sanding, washing down and priming as needed are all part of the work, not an extra. If a wall needs more than routine repair — a re-skim, or treatment for damp or historic water staining — we will tell you at survey and set out the options before anything starts.
What affects the quotation for interior painting?
Mainly the condition of the surfaces and how much preparation they need, the size and number of rooms, the amount of woodwork and detail, the paint system chosen and how easily we can access the space. We survey first, then send a written, itemised quote — free and with no obligation.
